Feiertag 29052014
It was a holiday, hence it meant spending time with my family and lazing around. The weather was around 5-10 degrees as it was rainy and cloudy and yes, a cold day. My mum, my older sister and I walked to Tolkewitz to buy some cakes for tea time. We each settled for Erdbeer Hörnchen, which was amazing. It was like cream puff, with triple the amount of cream and added with huge strawberries. We also bought These sweet things called, Baisem, made of Egg white. It was really really sweet. 200% sugar and sugar. I also have mastered the skill of making good Cuppocino thanks to my older sister.
After eating, we played Zug um Zug. It is a very strategical game. You have to build your train railway from one city to another . Points will be added for the completed railway tracks, and points will be deducted for Incompleted missions. It is super hard to explain here but if any of you reading this love board games, then this would totally be the game for you.
They come in different editions and the Zug um Zug Deutschland is only available in Germany. There are also plenty others such as America, Europe, Asia and so on.
Of course I lost the game because my mum and sister were so much better at the tricks of the game. But I hit the 100 mark so that was super great for me.
Zug um Zug Deutschland
Zug um Zug Europa
As you can see the Europe version is way more complicated than the Germany one.
Dinner was also amazing. We had Eintopf where you needed pots to cook the meat, the vege and the noodles but at the end you put them all in one big pot. Hence, Eintopf meaning one pot. :)
First time strawberry with sugar and milk. Honestly, this is the best way I have eaten a strawberry. But for people who prefer their food or whatever not sweet then you probably should just try it once with less sugar, 👌
After dinner, we all snacked on junk food while watching Brautalarm :)
Trip to grandparent's house
Today was an eventful day. Me and my host sister, Martina went to our grandparents' place. We sat in the bus for what felt like half an hour but I am not sure how long it actually was, because I was engrossed in my new book from the library ( Katrin Slaughter- Fallen) Wir haben Mittagessen zusammen.
TT
Praktikum Review 2014
There is this lady who came not so long ago and when she saw me she was like, " Ach so, du bist die Gute Fee nuu?" It's really nice getting to know all of them. Some of the patients I have got to talk to and always enjoy going to their rooms to see what they need, leave as soon as I get to know a little more about them. Which is sad, but good for them. This means they are healthy and ready to go jump skip hop around again. :)
Many patients ask me where I come from since when I speak German I have this weird accent. And I can't pronounce stuff properly yet (especially in the morning when I have to tell the patients that breakfast is here and they can come out to pick what they want to have). Everyone is just super nice there. Including the nurses who offered me chocolate and ice cream in between my duty time.
I have learnt to love going to the hospital despite waking up at 5am every morning and sometimes not knowing what to do after finishing my task and everyone at the station is too busy to realize me not having anything to do. I only have 7 more days before I complete this work placement and go back to school again. ( 可以不要用你的腳踢我嗎謝謝)
Signing off, Nicole.
Praktikum 2014
I am really lucky to have the opportunity to get involved in some work experience here in Germany. I managed to obtain a place at the Gynaecology station in Krankenhaus St. Joseph Stift. The first day was nerve wrecking, to the people who I whatsapp or line, you would know how I was freaking out. I had to take the tram alone to the hospital and walk to the office. Everything is actually fine, but if you think about it, I was actually worried more about the language and what I was supposed to say if someone came to me and I had no clue, or even worst when I had to ask questions. Luckily I met with two other people who were starting on the first day as me too.
We got our uniforms and locker keys and went off to our own stations. As I am posting this, I have only been there for two days. But I have got to know the patients well and being able to help them is really something really meaningful. I have to reach there at 7 everyday, which means I have to wake up at 5.30 in order to get ready and take the tram in time. When I reach the hospital, I have to go to my locker and change to my uniform and head to the second floor where the nurse station is.
Today, I got the chance to serve breakfast and not forgetting cleaning all the rooms with disinfection soap, clearing the bins and what not. The patients that I have been working with have been super nice and lovely, and sometimes we will end up talking a little about my home country and stuff.
Then comes breakfast at 9, when we will sit at the kitchen in the nurse station and have breakfast together. The nurses are really amazing and helpful. I had to push two huge hospital beds in exchange for a new one today, and I could not even push it in a straight line. Luckily along the way there were super wonderful doctors who helped me with my struggling.
Everything is going out amazing for me so far, I am learning so many things already just by these two days. Looking forward to everyday for these two weeks before going back to school :)
Stay tuned, Nicole.
Rummelzeit Dresden
Carnival day! It was ladies' night so most of the things were half the price and so we got to go on each ride for one euro only.
All squished into one wagon it was super funny.
Labour Day 2014
On labour day, my mum took me to Schillerplatz, and we sat at the Elbe watching boats pass by. There were a total of 10 and they would blow the steam out (how do you say this) and it was really funny waving at the people on the boat. Thankfully, it only started to rain after the tenth boat passed by and the event came to an end.
