    Praktikum 2014

I am really lucky to have the opportunity to get involved in some work experience here in Germany. I managed to obtain a place at the Gynaecology station in Krankenhaus St. Joseph Stift.

The first day was nerve wrecking, to the people who I whatsapp or line, you would know how I was freaking out. I had to take the tram alone to the hospital and walk to the office. Everything is actually fine, but if you think about it, I was actually worried more about the language and what I was supposed to say if someone came to me and I had no clue, or even worst when I had to ask questions. Luckily I met with two other people who were starting on the first day as me too.

We got our uniforms and locker keys and went off to our own stations. As I am posting this, I have only been there for two days. But I have got to know the patients well and being able to help them is really something really meaningful. I have to reach there at 7 everyday, which means I have to wake up at 5.30 in order to get ready and take the tram in time. When I reach the hospital, I have to go to my locker and change to my uniform and head to the second floor where the nurse station is.

Today, I got the chance to serve breakfast and not forgetting cleaning all the rooms with disinfection soap, clearing the bins and what not. The patients that I have been working with have been super nice and lovely, and sometimes we will end up talking a little about my home country and stuff.

Then comes breakfast at 9, when we will sit at the kitchen in the nurse station and have breakfast together. The nurses are really amazing and helpful. I had to push two huge hospital beds in exchange for a new one today, and I could not even push it in a straight line. Luckily along the way there were super wonderful doctors who helped me with my struggling.

Everything is going out amazing for me so far, I am learning so many things already just by these two days. Looking forward to everyday for these two weeks before going back to school :)

    Stay tuned, Nicole.
